Ole Henriksen Balance

I recently received the Ole Henriksen Balance Voxbox complimentary for testing purposes from #Influenster.

I love this product! It's easy to use, and can be used day and night! It cleared up my face in just a few uses. I have oily skin, and I've definitely seen and improvement in the short time I've been using this product.

I highly recommend this!

Day 2 at the CMA's: Social media, blogging, and Hunger Games! Oh my!

Well, The Big Apple was officially been taken over by blogging fanatics, freelance photographers, and writers by the hundreds; all prospective journalism students. I definitely don't hate being around hundreds of news lovers (is that nerdy?)

The first session I attended yesterday was "Free tools to increase your social media following." This session taught me a lot actually. I learned what kind of topics to write about that would spark interests of others in the worlds of Twitter and Facebook and I also learned how to engage conversation with more people, which also equals followers. What I found interesting was that there is almost like a science as to when is the right time to post and when you will receive the most retweets or responses. Also, to find my niche. That means to write about something I do extremely well and have a voice about it. Lastly, the speaker gave us some free websites to increase followers.
This is from one of the pages he recommended that can generate a fun quote! (http://recitethis.com/)
The next session I attended was hosted by Buzzfeed employees, Charlie Warzel and Katie Notopoulos and freelance blogger, Dan Nosowitz. The session, "The Career Blogger," taught me that I shouldn't just blog but link a portfolio of my work to my blog (such as photography, articles, and multimedia pieces). They also stressed the importance of connecting with other bloggers that interest you.

The last session I attended for the day was, "Newsroom Hunger Games: How to Run Toward (and Catch) the Fire." This session was very interesting and had a fun twist to it. Hunger Game characters represented each type of person that you can find in the news room and went through the positive and negative aspects of working with that person. The importance of being a team in the newsroom was stressed and strategies on how to work as a team were given.

Aside from attending sessions, I presented one. Yes, I was completely terrified! Especially when the room became packed with people and there was only standing room left. My session, "It Doesn't Have to be Lonely at the Top," showed the benefits of having an Editor-in-Chief and a Managing Editor. The attendees seemed to enjoy the session. We got in a circle instead of the traditional rows and had "therapy" where each person got what they needed to off their chest in regards to staff, advisors, and working on a newspaper in general. It was a great experience for me and my nerves calmed by the end (THANK GOD)!

My fellow Wood Worders presented yesterday as well and you can bet I went and supported each of their sessions!

Speaking of the Wood Word, our paper got critiqued and it went well! I am excited to take what I learned back to Marywood so the whole staff can work to improve the paper.

Yesterday wasn't all work though! We did go for some delicious pizza. We also walked around Times Square last night. It was a beautiful night! I tried Nuts 4 Nuts for the first time (I don't hate it!). I also did some photography while I was in Times Square! I can't wait to see how they came out!

Today wasn't  filled with sessions. I shopped before I headed back to Scranton. I had a great time and I am so lucky that I was able to attend the CMA's for a second time. Until next time New York.

Day one at the CMA's: It's all about ethics

Good morning! I'm in "the city that never sleeps" and ironically all I want to do is sleep. Journalism is exhausting!

The CMA's are great though! We arrived yesterday just in time for the keynote speaker which was Scott Pelley from CBS News. Mr. Pelley was great and touched on issues such as why journalism is important and how we are the voice of the people that can not speak up for themselves. He also gave great tips. When writing he told us to ask ourselves, "is it right? Is it fair? And is it honest?" This moto is something he said, CBS practices.

Here is a photo of Mr. Pelley. Sorry for the poor quality, my camera was in my suitcase.

The next session I went to (after buying a $16 omelet for breakfast) was titled "Journalists are Superheros." Although the session wasn't what I thought it would be, I found it very interesting. The speaker talked about truth in journalism and while Clark Kent (Superman) and Peter Parker (Spider-man) are journalists, it is a conflict of interest and they are not truthful to their editors since they each write about or take photos of their superhero selves. The speaker was inspiring and told attendees to do what is right and be honest. We were then refreshed on journalism ethics.

I then visited the table where other student journalists placed their schools' issues. I took a few (ok maybe more than a few), to get inspired and see what I can bring back to The Wood Word, the paper I write for at Marywood University.

My group and I also went to a special session, a "Journalism Hackathon: A Big Apple Brainstorming Contest." It was an extremely fun and helpful session. We brainstormed possible story ideas that aren't typically the average story.

So, there you have it! My first day at CMA was great. Today, I will be speaking. Wish me luck!

    Until later, Autumn

I'm new at this... Kind of.

First off, let me start by introducing myself. My name is Autumn Granza and I attend Marywood University. I'm a student of the writing sort so, I study Broadcast Journalism and I minor in English. I also have a passion for photography. I hope to eventually combine my love for writing and photography and become a photojournalist. My goal? To become a photographer for Rolling Stone Magazine and "shoot" Bon Jovi for the cover. You know, the typical goal.

Now, to switch gears a bit... I wouldn't say I'm new at this whole blogging thing. However, I wouldn't say I'm a professional. I have blogged in class and for a web portfolio I created which you can check out (http://agranza.wix.com/porfolio).

I decided though that I am going to become an avid blogger. Why? Well, because I have a lot to say. I am one of writing, opinions, and creativity. I will share my opinion on news, politics, and pop culture. I'm sure I will have some miscellaneous posts as well. I also hope that my photography sparks interest because you can bet I will be sharing that a lot.

I also decided it was the perfect time to start blogging because I am on my way to the CMAs, the national college media convention, in New York City! Take a look at what I will be doing! (http://m.collegemedia.org/events/nyc14/). This will be my second time at the convention. This time I want to share my experiences there through video and pictures. I expect to learn a lot so, look out for informational posts concerning journalism tips and my opinion on the sessions I attend.

    Until next time, Autumn
